LET IT BE ME

Plano, TX: Theatre Britain presents Let It Be Me by Carey Jane Hardy, opening at 8pm on Friday, April 7, 2017 at the Cox Playhouse in Plano, and running through Sunday, April 30, 2017.

Amy cares for her Aunt Sylvia who has Alzheimer’s. She is so devoted to her aunt that she finds herself seriously tested when she meets and falls in love with Gregory. So begins a touching love story in which Amy comes to see that a different, happier life is possible. Rated PG

Directed by Sue Birch, Let It Be Me features Christian R Black, Dana Harrison, Ivy Opdyke, Marilyn Setu, Robert San Juan and Octavia Y Thomas. Set design by Anthonyka Ferdinand, lighting design by H Bart McGeehon, costume design by Shanna Gobin, wigs and hair by Don Hall and with original music by Aaron Fryklund.

Let It Be Me was first performed in Lichfield, UK on 11 April 2001 and subsequently in Birmingham, UK on 20 November 2001 with the playwright playing the role of Amy.

Carey Jane Hardy was born in 1962 in Ickenham near Uxbridge and enjoyed writing from childhood. On leaving school she trained as a nurse and specialised in haematology and oncology working for 12 years at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham. During this time she joined a local amateur theatre company and there enjoyed acting, directing and eventually writing for the stage. Later she did a degree in English Literature before taking time out to have her two sons. She continued to write and was one of the winners of the Ian St James award in 1993 and with her short story Nobody We Know published by Harper Collins. She was also one of the winners of the Asham Award in 2003 and her short story Face to Face was published by Bloomsbury. She was long-listed for the Bridport prize and her story Resonance received a High Commendation. Later she trained for the ordained ministry at Queens Foundation in Birmingham achieving an MA in Theology and now works as a Priest in the Church of England.
